The harbor and open shoreline funnel steady wind across Port Hueneme. We build for it with reinforced posts set in deep concrete footings, and on the most exposed lots we use aluminum pickets so wind passes through rather than pushing on a solid wall.

Typically fences up to 6 feet in side and rear yards are fine without a building permit, while front-yard height is limited and taller fences require approval. Because Port Hueneme is a small coastal city with its own standards, we verify the local code and pull permits before installing.
